The attached lesson plans were created for a unit called “Plate Tectonics” and used for high school courses in Earth and environmental science. This curriculum was designed using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework developed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTiche. One of the main tenants of UbD is backward design. That is, you start with the big idea (e.g. plate tectonics) and work you way backwards to the individual lesson plans and assessments.
